Knowledge of God

"This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent" (John 17:3).

The ultimate purpose of God’s relationship with us is that we may know Him. This is not mere intellectual knowledge but an intimate and experiential understanding. This was Paul’s deep longing (Phil. 3:8, 10, 11) and the very essence of his prayer for the saints (Eph. 1:17).

This principle was the foundation of every aspect of Jesus' life as the Son of Man:

  • To speak or to remain silent?
  • To act or to refrain?
  • To go or to stay?
  • To meet or to avoid?
  • To yield or to refuse?
  • To reveal or to hide?
  • To eat or to fast?

The fundamental law of the believer’s life should be: Does this lead to knowing God?

Many Christians attend worship services, study the Scriptures, participate in special meetings, conferences, and ministries, yet have very little knowledge of God. The measure of our ministry is determined by whether God’s people are growing in the knowledge of Him and whether their character is being transformed into Christlikeness.
