Knowledge of God "This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent" (John 17:3). The ultimate purpose of God’s relationship with us is that we may know Him. This is not mere intellectual knowledge but an intimate and experiential understanding. This was Paul’s deep longing (Phil. 3:8, 10, 11) and the very essence of his prayer for the saints (Eph. 1:17). This principle was the foundation of every aspect of Jesus' life as the Son of Man: • To speak or to remain silent? • To act or to refrain? • To go or to stay? • To meet or to avoid? • To yield or to refuse? • To reveal or to hide? • To eat or to fast? The fundamental law of the believer’s life should be: Does this lead to knowing God? Many Christians attend worship services, study the Scriptures, participate in special meetings, conferences, and ministries, yet have very little knowledge of God. The measure of our ministry is determined by whether God’s people are growing in the knowledge of Him and whether their character is being transformed into Christlikeness.
Toward Jesus When Jesus called Peter, who was in the boat, saying, "Come," Peter did not consider the boat, the sea, the wind, the waves, or his fellow passengers. He stepped out of the boat and walked on the water toward the Lord who had called him. But when he looked at the circumstances, he began to sink. In our lives, there are times when we walk straight toward Jesus, fixing our eyes on Him. However, there are also many moments when we get overwhelmed by our circumstances and begin to sink. Once He says, "Come," we must start walking without hesitation. If, after beginning to walk, we start doubting whether He truly called us, the Lord’s question to us will be, "Why did you doubt?" (Matt. 14:31). One who is willing to lay himself and all that belongs to him on the altar without hesitation will be able to keep his eyes fixed on Jesus and hear His voice clearly. Such a person will walk forward with courage, disregarding circumstances, overcoming obstacles, and moving ahead with unwavering faith.
